If you live in a state that requires you to have health coverage and do not have coverage (or an exemption), you will be charged a fee when you file your 2019 state taxes. Confirm with your state or tax preparer.

More than one coverage status?

If you were not enrolled in any health coverage for only part of 2019, or other family members had different health insurance plan, visit the relevant pages.

Enrollment in Job-Based Coverage

Depending on the type of job-based coverage you had (including COBRA or retiree coverage), you may obtain one of these from your employer or insurance company:

  1. If you receive Form 1095-B or Form 1095-C
  • You ought to have it by mid-March.
  • Read Parts II and IV on Form 1095-B or Parts II and III on Form 1095-C to find information regarding:
  1. Complete your tax return

If you and those who depend on you were covered by job-based health insurance for all months of 2019:

  • Check the “Full-year coverage” box on your federal revenue tax form. You might find it on Form 1040 (PDF).
