Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace

Providing Insurance

Oregon doesn’t have an online Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP), but small businesses in Oregon still can provide health coverage to their workforces. Any small business in Oregon with one to 50 employees can buy a certified health insurance plan directly from one of the participating insurers. Also, small businesses with fewer than 25 full-time employees could be qualified for the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit.

Health Insurance Marketplace in Oregon

To be considered for the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit, you must provide your employees with a medical plan certified by the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace.

If you require assistance in selecting a plan, you can search for a certified insurance agent or work with your current insurance agent.

Forms of Coverage for Individuals and Families

The Oregon Health Plan, private plans sold on HealthCare.gov, and Medicare are coverage choices for individuals who either do not get health insurance through a job or qualify for additional coverage. There are special choices for COFA islanders, members of tribes, and small businesses.

Oregon Health Insurance

This free coverage is available on the Oregon health insurance marketplace to persons who meet requirements for income, residency, and other factors. Oregonians may also qualify depending on age and disability status. Coverage through the Oregon Health Plan consists of mental health services, dental, doctor visits, hospital care, and some vision care.

Private Health Insurance through Healthcare.Gov

Private health insurance plans, and financial assistance with your coverage, are available through HealthCare.gov. Individual health insurance plans in every Oregon county are provided on HealthCare.gov. All the plans comprise comprehensive health benefits, and the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace ensures the plans attain state and federal requirements. HealthCare.gov is the only place to get assistance in paying for coverage when you buy insurance for yourself or your family.

COFA Premium Assistance Program

The Compact of Free Association (COFA) Premium Assistance Program offers free health insurance for low-income citizens of the Republic of Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of Palau, who reside in Oregon under the compact.

Special Choices for Members of Tribes

Private Health Plans in Oregon Marketplace

Private health plans accessible through HealthCare.gov consist of exclusive benefits for American Indians and Alaska Natives who are enrolled in a federally recognized tribe.

Enrolled tribal members who purchase private health insurance through HealthCare.gov can enroll in a zero cost-sharing plan if their income is at or below the limit for their family size ($75,300 for a family of four). This shows that they do not have to pay for deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance, or prescriptions. They also can register in a private health plan at any time of year and can change plans up to once a month.

Medicare

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for persons aged 65 and older. Certain persons younger than 65 can qualify for Medicare, as well as those who receive Social Security Disability Income and those who have permanent kidney failure. Since Medicare is a health insurance, you share the costs of your care.

The Oregon Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance program (SHIBA) can tell you more regarding Medicare choices.
