How to Cancel Anthem Health Insurance

Individual and family health insurance plans automatically renew. If you want to cancel your anthem health insurance plan, follow these instructions.

Before you cancel your health insurance with Anthem, be sure another health plan covers you and your family members, so you do not experience a coverage gap. You may not be able to enroll in another plan unless it is during an open enrollment period or you are eligible for a special enrollment period- Opens in a new window.

If you cancel your health insurance plan and do not want to enroll in a different Cal MediConnect plan, you will go back to getting your Medicare and Medi-Cal services separately.

How You Will Get Medicare Services

You will have an option about how you get your Medicare benefits.

You have three choices for getting your Medicare services. By selecting one of these options, you will automatically cancel membership in our Cal MediConnect plan.

1.You can change to a Medicare health plan, like a Medicare Advantage plan, or if you meet eligibility requirements and live within the service location, a Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE).

Here is what to do: Contact Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227), 24 hours a day, seven days a week. TTY users should call 1-877-486-2048 to register the new Medicare-only health coverage. This call is free.

For PACE inquiries, call 1-855-921-PACE (7223).

If you want help or more information, call the California Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) at 1-800-434-0222 (TTY: 711).

You will automatically be disenrolled from our health insurance plan when your new plan’s coverage begins.

2.You can change to Original Medicare with a different Medicare prescription drug plan.

Here is what to do: Contact Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227), 24 hours a day, seven days a week. TTY utilizers should call 1-877-486-2048. This call is free.

You will automatically be deregistered from our plan when your new plan’s coverage starts.

3.You can change to Original Medicare without a separate Medicare prescription drug health insurance plan.

Here is what to do: Contact Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227), 24 hours a day, seven days a week. TTY consumers should call 1-877-486-2048. This call is free.

If you need assistance or more information, call the California Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program (HICAP) at 1-800-434-0222 (TTY: 711).

You will automatically be disenrolled from our plan when your Original Medicare coverage commences.

NOTE: If you switch to Original Medicare and don’t sign up for a separate Medicare prescription drug plan, Medicare may enroll you in a drug plan, unless you tell Medicare you do not want to join.

You should only drop prescription drug coverage if you get drug coverage from another source, like an employer or union. If you have questions regarding whether you contact drug coverage, call the California Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program (HICAP) at 1-800-434-0222 (TTY: 711).
