What CHIP Covers

CHIP benefits are different in every state. But all states provide wide coverage, including:

• Immunizations
• Inpatient and outpatient hospital care
• Laboratory and X-ray services
• Prescriptions
• Routine check-ups

States may offer more CHIP benefits. Check with your state for information about covered services.

Cost of CHIP

Routine “well child” physician and dental visits are free under CHIP. But there may be copayments for other services. Some states charge a monthly premium for the CHIP health insurance plan. The costs vary in each state, but you would not have to pay more than 5% of your family’s income for the year.

What if My Kids Qualify for CHIP, but I Would Rather Purchase a Marketplace Insurance Plan?

CHIP coverage is more affordable than other plans.

If your children are eligible for CHIP, they won’t be qualified for any savings on Marketplace insurance. CHIP coverage will possibly be more affordable. Remember, you and other family members may be qualified for savings on Marketplace insurance coverage.
